![]() School Accountability Ratings 2006-2007 AUSTIN, TX., August 28, 2007 – Lake Travis ISD is pleased to announce that Lakeway Elementary and Lake Travis High are two of only 385 public schools across the state that the Texas Business and Education Coalition (TBEC) recognized on its 2007 TBEC Honor Roll. The TBEC Honor Roll is the most prestigious award for sustained academic excellence in Texas. It recognizes schools that have demonstrated three years of consistent, high performance in all subjects compared to other schools serving similar student populations. Lake Travis High School Principal Charlie Little is pleased to know that the hard work of students and staff is being recognized. “We are committed to academic excellence at Lake Travis High School, and I am pleased to see that the dedication of teachers and students is being acknowledged. Three years ago, the community and District made a significant investment in LTHS students by supporting a move to a 4x4 schedule and the development of the Institutes of Study,” Little said. “In my opinion, these changes enhanced the overall relevancy and rigor in our curriculum. As a result, we are starting to see significant performance gains emerge.” This is the second consecutive year that Lakeway Elementary has been named to the Honor Roll. Principal Sam Hicks said the teachers and students always work diligently to achieve high passing rates on all tests and to achieve one of the highest commended performance rates in all of Texas. “We are honored to be named to the TBEC Honor Roll,” Hicks said. “Our staff, students and parents attribute to the school’s success as a team by giving 200% every day.” TBEC identifies the Honor Roll schools by analyzing three years of performance data for all Texas public schools. A school must have a high percentage of students meeting state standards on the TAKS tests in all subjects for three consecutive years, with an emphasis on the percentage of student’s scoring at the state’s highest standard – commended – on all tests. Selection criteria account also for each school’s student demographics, the number of subjects tested and the grades served. TBEC representatives will recognize Honor Roll schools at an awards banquet in Austin on Monday, October 22. |
